Authors of the Free Cinema documentary movement laid the foundation for the
emergence of new wave, based on ''Angry Young Men'' dramas.
- THE CZECH TRACE: KAREL REISZ
This native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, was one of the 669 children that have been
saved from the Second World War by Sir Nicholas Winton who transported them to
the UK. Reisz began his career as a film critic and later on, along with Lindsay
Anderson and Tony Richardson, became the founder of the Free Cinema
movement; their full-length movies changed the face of British cinema.

In recent years there has been a strong trend of directorial debutants in Great Britain. Their efforts are evaluated not only by different prices – BAFTA Awards, British Independent Film Awards – but also by the increase in our interest.
- BRIT SILENT
Alfred Hitchcock was one of the few British authors who achieved worldwide acclaim as early as the silent era. We intent to bring to the Uherské Hradiště one of his early movies that will be accompanied here by live original music of British musician, composer and songwriter James Harries, who has established himself in the Czech Republic. J. Harries’s accompanist will be excellent bassist Peter Dvorsky.

In cooperation with British Film Institute we will screen one of the films that is part of their Flipside project by which is this renowned British institution trying to awake old, almost forgotten jewels of cinematography. One of such films is Herostratus (1967) by Australian film director Don Levy that in one of the supporting roles introduced to the silver screen Helen Mirren.
